5 titlesWhat the report looks like for Events
- The situation in one sentence: where, what was short, and by how much.
- The decision that was yours rather than the team’s, and what you chose not to do.
- One number or one consequence that shows it worked.
Every competency is scored out of five with a line you actually said as evidence, and the weakest answers are rewritten as structure and specifics, never a script.
What Events interviewers keep scoring
Event planning, run sheets & logistics
Plans events end to end: briefs, timelines, run sheets, floor plans, suppliers, AV, catering and staffing, with contingencies for what can go wrong.
Client briefs & expectation management
Extracts a clear brief from the client, translates it into a proposal and budget, manages scope changes and keeps the client confident before and during the event.
Budgets, quotes & supplier management
Builds and controls event budgets, negotiates supplier quotes and contracts, tracks costs to actuals and protects margin without compromising the event.
On-the-day execution & problem solving
Runs the event on the day: briefs staff, manages the run sheet, handles AV failures, late suppliers, no-shows and guest issues calmly and invisibly to guests.
Venue sales, banqueting & operations coordination
Sells and coordinates venue space and banqueting: site inspections, function sheets, BEOs, coordination with kitchen, AV and housekeeping, and post-event billing.
Safety, compliance & crowd management
Manages event safety: risk assessments, permits and licensing (including SASREA requirements for large events), crowd flow, security, medical cover and emergency plans.
Reliability, long hours & attention to detail
Delivers across long set-up and strike days, weekends and back-to-back events without dropping detail, and follows through on every action.
Coordinating teams, volunteers & stakeholders
Directs event staff, contractors, volunteers and internal departments clearly, resolves conflict quickly and keeps everyone aligned to the run sheet.
